JG=>On 04-27-97, MARK WRIGHT said to BOB DAVIS:
JG=>BD=>MW> Parallel ports havent used interrupts for years unless using
JG=>BD=>MW> postscript.
JG=>BD=>Postscript has nothing to do with the parallel port hardware.
Interrupt
JG=>MW>foBD=>parallel ports have been part of the PC architecture since the
JG=>MW>beginning ofBD=>time.
JG=>MW>The printer will not use a interrupt unless it is postscript, been
JG=>MW>using/sharing lpt1 irq7 and sound cards irq7 "since the beginning of
JG=>MW>time".
JG=>Yep, but the page description language is not what forces the use of an
IRQ
JG=>It's a HARDWARE issue, not software...
Learn something every day, been polled for netware printers for years
and never made the connection. It is a hardware issue, but the main
reason this was debated in the first place was the question of whether
printers use interrupts, most printers do not even if they are assigned.
ECP/EPP or OS2 will use them, Netware can be either way. Postscript has
nothing to do with it, made that assumtion years ago and just kinda
stuck there. sorry about that...
