| subject: | the zones are irrelevent but.. |
Hello Alan, AI> True, the zones are irrelevent but they are here to stay. All the FTN AI> software in existance today uses it. I don't mean to do away with the Zone feature. I just mean there is no need for different zone numbers. Someone in another echo said something like "we need it to at least *see* where the message is coming from so that we can understand the cultural reason of a posted bad remark.." or something like that. But then there was an intelligent reply that explained that "we can see the origin (i.e. country) of a post from the nodelist data". AI> I know in my own case 1:153/757 is part of my fido heritage. I would not AI> want to become 2:153/757 and I'll bet sysops in other zones fell the same AI> or something close to that. Hmm.. There *is* the pride in having something like that. BUT.. it would never be forgotten anyway. Just look up may name at, http://nodehist.fidonet.org.ua/ Each represents the different places I operatted from. And in one case, I was assigned to 3 different nets over time even when I was not moving anywhere. My numbers are there on record for posterity. That's rather nice. ../|ug --- WinPoint Beta 5 (359.1)* Origin: Reluctantly Revisiting Fidonet (2:221/1.58) SEEN-BY: 201/119 203/0 221/1 6 360 261/38 280/464 5003 292/854 633/267 280 SEEN-BY: 712/620 848 886 770/1 @PATH: 221/1 280/464 712/848 633/267 |
