I believe you're looking for something like this:

Add this to your main config :

linkwithimportlog kill
importlog /home/fido/log/import.log

Of course, change the path and/or filename to match your setup.

I have the following in my toss.pl:

if (-e 'log/import.log') {
  system('/usr/local/bin/hpt -q link');
}

It will execute hpt link if import.log exists and hpt will link only for
areas listed in import.log.
