RS ->I have sent the file to the user via internet e-mail. Though,
->you say that this library would be of interest to only a few.
->What about topics on here? There are topics discussed that
->are only of interest to a few people, and this affects thousands
   ->of locations.
Sorry, I should have explained my reason for asking you not to
do it. Messages aren't a problem because they're relatively tiny,
bandwidth -wise. That means they transfer in the blink of an eye.
I UUENCODED NETTO.LIB and it required just over 236,000 bytes, and that
didn't include the source code. If you would have posted it to the
message echo, every BBS in the world that was grabbing all echos for
their users would be forced to download probably a half megabyte of
NETTO, whether they wanted to or not. This would have slowed down the
transfer of messages for tens of thousands of FIDO sites.
And every reader of the Clipper echo would have to download that half
megabyte of data regardless of whether they needed it or not. And
whether they already had it or not. That's why we want to restrict
messages to 100 lines or so. The uuencoded version of NETTO.LIB took
almost 3,800 lines.
I can always tell when someone has done this on one of the echos I
monitor. The packet size I get from my BBS jumps from around 60K to
500K. It's just a matter of courtesy to the other echos and their BBSes
who have to handle the messages. And maybe pay long distance charges if
they're getting their feed by telephone.
Thanks for sending it via Internet email and for being so willing to
take your time to help others!
