People held to be "professionals" are always held to a higher standard, both
in
court and in the public eye. Joe Citizen who happens upon an accident, tries
to help a dying victim and fails, or aids, unintentionally, in the death of
the
victim is often considered a "Hero" for doing whatever he could. However,
he
situation changes if the party is an EMT, Nurse or Doctor.
Same goes if you sit in court and watch how a Judge handles people defending
themselves vs. Attorney's defending them. They tend to give the individual
citizen some latitude since they aren't professionals, while they hammer the
Attorney's for procedural errors.
When I hire a plumber, he'd better be doing the job right, or he'll hear from
me. If my neighbor comes over and offers to help me fix the problem, then I
have to realize that I'm taking my chances instead of calling a professional.
Way life goes...
