Good lord, methinks you're trying your hardest to find faults where none
exist. In most distributions you go to some sort of software manager &
choose to update a given repository or repositories. You can then select by
package name e.g. typing "apache" or "SSH" or
"OpenOffice" & then selecting from the repo you want or you
can select the repo & choose just the packages you want or in the case
of updates/security updates, you can apply them all.

A) There is usually a GUI so you can calm down Geo, there are pictures
& buttons etc.

B) You can select on a wide level of granularity from "apply all
security fixes" to "just apply ssh security fixes" to
"apply this specific update for this specific package".

Sheesh.
