And heat causes excessive expansion of metal parts, which causes clearances
to fall out of tolerance (either tight or loose, depending on the metals
involved). Too tight, increased wear. Too loose, it becomes sloppy,
resulting in too much 'rattling'... and increased wear ~8-)
