Hi Vicki,
RH> (white, navy) and having a cone of thread means not having to worry
RH> for a long time about running out in the middle of a project.
VO> Exactly. I use a lot of white, and quite a bit of black and navy.
I bought a bunch of different colors last year when our House of Fabrics
went out of business; didn't have to buy grey thread for the
bridesmaid's dresses for the parts I'm serging. I did buy a good
quality thread for the sewing machine, one that would have been too
expensive to use much of with the serger. I've also got other assorted
colors I can now off wind with the EZ Winder for small projects.
RH> I think your best bet is to try it and see if you like it.
VO> I think I'm going to try that.
Remember the old Alka-Seltzer ads, "try it, you'll like it?" Same thing
holds here, try using cone thread, you'll like the convenience.
RH> I started out with the adapter and one cone; it was enough to
VO> That's probably what'll happen to me.
Most likely. Do you have your machine in a permanent set up? If so,
Shelley Rodgers posted several years ago about how she just screwed a
cup hook into the wall and ran the thread thru that as an adapter.
Being military (moving every so often) and not sure where my machine
will be set up from one place to the next, I figured for $2.50, the
adapter was well worth the cost. Right now, the machine is on the
dining room table & the serger is set up on my sewing machine cabinet;
got to move the machine back because Steve will be home soon. It has
been nice to be able to keep both machines set up for large projects
though.
VO> That's nice to know. It's helpful to have people who have already
VO> experienced it to advise.
I know. As long as I've been sewing, I learned a lot on here and S&Q,
especially before I bought my serger.
RH> relationship with somebody like that; if you need special help, you're
RH> more apt to get it if the person knows you.
VO> True. That's that way with a lot of things.
I like knowing that somebody does care, especially in a town where so
many are on a long term transient basis. We've been here four years and
know we will have to leave eventually but it will be hard, especially
with some of the relationships we've developed in the community outside
of the military.
RH> Do you have an indicator light on your machine?
VO> Nope. :( Not on either machine.
That's one thing I like about my Pfaff; that and the needle down feature
are worth the lousy buttonholes it made before I learned how to outsmart
the system.
RH> When you're doing a big project, wind an extra bobbin or 2
VO> I usually have two of the common colors I sew with (navy, white,
VO> black)
RH> It saves a couple of minutes and a lot of frustration,
VO> Frustration primarily.
Yes, especially when you're "that" close to being done and run out of
thread on the bobbin. I hate to wind a bobbin for 6" of sewing.
Catch you later,
Ruth
