Good evening Rob .... things are cooling off here and the leafs are changing, and we off to take a road trip tomorrow to look at'em before I have to have my say on this electoral reform.... Oh bother...poo poo -=> Quoting Rob Mccart to Peter Coggon <=- RM> Oops.. I was talking about this as though it were a Federal RM> change where it would only be Provincial, at least at first. TVO had a show about it last night, very interesting, but not sure I want political partys making the decsions on who gets these proportional seats. I'd rather have electors vote who gets them, even if a runoff to decide who does, not some old party hacks being given a place at the trough. RM> The same basic problems are still there, just on a smaller scale. RM> A closer look at it shows it's not quite the same as the US RM> system where you can vote for the President separately. Not worried about voting like they do in the USA. It has been tried in European countrys and they find it better, or so the program last night pointed out. The other thing on the program which still leaves me with doubts is the loggerheads they still had on the panel talking it over. RM> It's more like, in a close vote, it could change who is elected RM> or change a majority gov't into a minority one where next to nothing RM> gets accomplished. It may give a few of the little parties some RM> seats in parliament that they normally wouldn't have gotten but RM> that just reduces the support for the party in power which has RM> the same effect. I think it's more important to vote for the RM> party who's policies you most like (least hate?) rather than RM> splitting the vote to elect a local rep you like from another RM> party who will have virtually no power because he's not a member RM> of the ruling party. I like minority governments, they work better because everyone of the partys and even the independents is important to keeping the system going, rather then doing a tiring expensive election over and over. RM> -!- Today, in the local stores, this issue is being discussed and it seems that 70% are not voting. Thats my unofficial poll. They hate all partys. Torys and Liberals are one party representing Corporate Bay Street, and the rest are wannabees that couldn't get either nomination from Bay Street's puppets. As for the reform , new idea, they want to know more, and the idea of referendum to if promises are broken rightaway the call for a contract review, and impeachment of any rep that betrays the voters trust. Might make politician think twice before making promises just to get elected, knowing they will never carry them out. Oh...poo Rob ... October 10th is coming faster then we want with this one. Wheres the rest of the Cannucks in Ontairo on this one? ttfn Pete ... þ A stitch in time would have confused Einstein. -Unknown ___ Blue Wave/DOS v2.30 [NR] --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/300 400 34/999 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 SEEN-BY: 222/2 226/0 229/4000 236/150 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 SEEN-BY: 261/1410 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 633/260 262 267 285 712/848 SEEN-BY: 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/105 200 2800/18 2905/0 3005/4 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 633/260 267 |
