I hate to get commercial here but in spite of it's worts, the Ronchi test
might help in this case.  I have never claimed it to be anything other than
a lemon finder.

In this case we clearly have a lemon or a worker that needs some help in
the form of a simpler test to provide another opinion.

Borrow an EasyTester from someone or rig one up yourself.  If you don't
know what it is, it's on my web site.
