Another possibility, that I'm surprised Sean hasn't mentioned, is A2
Central's BBS system. Not only does it give you access to the Apple 2
usenet groups but also the A2 Central news groups as well.

I use it whenever it seems Google Groups isn't working right. Another
benefit is Apple 2 software downloads.
