I'm the proud owner of a fugitive from a junk yard, a 1987 Chrysler LeBaron, 2.5L, 5 speed (hey, it's paid for). Beginning a year or so again, while cruising along occasionally it would suddenly jerk, like a couple of cylinders misfired or failed to fire, and then continue along. Of late instead of that jerk, it dies completely. No warning, no symptom, no trouble light and no trouble codes in the computer according to the dealer. Usually, cycling the ignition key off and back on will get it going again. On (thus far) two occasions nothing would restart it and I had to have it towed in to the dealership; eventually it would decide to behave. The dealer has no idea what the problem is, all they've done is clean contacts (they did that the first time, too) and test drive it. My thinking is that somehow power to the car's computer is quitting, which causes the ignition to quit. If it were any sensor that's causing the computer to kill the ignition there'd be a trouble code of some sort stored and there isn't. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:2905/3) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 2905/3 14/0 5 140/1 106/2000 633/267 |
