On 01-18-98, CY HUIE declared to ROBERT CRAFT:
CH> 'Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary is directed to
CH> investigate and report to the House whether grounds exist to
CH> impeach William Jefferson Clinton, President of the United
CH> States.'
CH>That Republicans won't even go this far is very, *very* disturbing.
CH>It is as though they are guilty of the Clinton Crimes, too, and are
CH>afraid a real investigation would reveal their part in them.
I agree, Cy. Their continued reticence is downright infuriating to me.
Dufus should have been impeached long ago.
Mr. Hyde, as demonstrated today with Tony Snow on Rush's show, is still
looking for some prosecutor to hand him an already proven case before he
thinks about doing anything, conveniently forgetting that it's the duty
of the Congress to determine guilt or innocence in matters of
impeachment (and that by their own standards, not the standards of
criminal courts) rather than to decide whether or not pre-existing
air-tight proof of a criminal act is sufficient cause for removal from
office. In the latter case, there should be nothing to decide, IMO -
the perp is guilty and out he goes.
As I've noted here before, the inaction of Congress on Dufus'
impeachment at the very least makes them accessories after the fact,
whether they share any of the original guilt or not. By sitting on
their hands, they virtually insure that future administrations will feel
they have the green light for equal criminality to this one, if not
greater. Congress is guilty of dereliction of duty and its members
unworthy of the offices they hold.
