Concerning _Security_, Charles George said to Troy H. Cheek in SCANRADIO:
CG> From the Origin line in your message, I see it came by way of Benton,
CG> TN. I will have to look up Benton, since I know where some other
CG> towns are.
Benton is east of Cleveland, which is east of Chattanooga. Benton is in the
center of the southeastern-most county of Tennessee, Polk. I'm about 3 miles
southeast of Benton, halfway between it and Parksville (which isn't on many
maps).
CG> Do you listen to any of the Parks in your state?
Actually, no. I've been meaning to, but you know how it is...
CG> If I were to get a handheld, which would you suggest?
CG> I would like the same range as the Pro-2035 but would not need as
CG> many memories.
When it comes to handhelds, I'm totally and completely biased towards the
Pro-43, but I know it's not for everyone.
What exactly are the frequencies and features of the 2035 that you'd want in
a handheld, and how much are you willing to pay?
CG> Though I find it interesting that the price seems to go down per
CG> channel the more in a set for some reason.
CG> I am wondering about the technical reasons, unless this is just
CG> pure financial concern?
RAM (used to store channels) is cheap. The price difference between the size
RAM needed to store 10 channels and the size needed to store 1000 channels
isn't all that great, and changing the program to access those channels isn't
all that hard (for the manufacturer). Usually, the price difference is more
due to other features, how new the scanners are, how well they're selling in
relation to each other, etc.
Some differences in price and performance are artificial. The Pro-2004 has a
diode that can be clipped to allow access to 100 more channels, bringing it
up to the same number (400) as its replacement, the 2005. Both the 2004 and
2005 have diodes that can be clipped to speed up the scan speed so that's its
closer to their replacement, the 2006.
