RA} Is there any way at all to get commo to display
  } the actual modem to modem connect rate on the
  } status line instead of the locked port rate?
No.
RA} If not, can you suggest a small macro that will
  } use the sfi to say the baud rate after it
  } connects to a system? Thanks...
The new beta releases will display all of the modem replies to the
screen immediately after connection. So you can simply look in the
Scrollback or the Capture to see them.
Alternatively, here's a macro that will display the data rate from
the CONNECT message. It's set up for F9, but you can use any key
you like:
  {:nf9} {info-d1s0 Modem data rate is %_mod} {}
