subject: Cables & Stuff ???

First, I must say that I recently replaced my old (original)
Monster Cable speaker cables with a pair of name brand, semi expensive
speaker cables. We set up a semi-blind test of these two and a third
set of cables (Kimber) on loan from a friend. Much to my surprise there
was a big difference between the Monster Cables and the other two. The
Monster Cable seemed to sound less brilliant and exacting in the mid-range
and treble. So, at least with my system, and the music I listen to.....
there is a difference.
To that end I have a question about the wiring inside the gear.
Is there a difference between multistrand wire and solid core wire of
the same diameter and insulation in conductivity and possible noise?
Would rewiring the inside of an amp with a bigger and better
quality wire make a difference that one can hear?
Is there a difference between the old fashion pot metal binding
posts and the brass and gold plated ones of today...if the old ones are
clean? Is the less corrosive(sp?) nature of the gold plating the only
advantage?
Thank you in advance for your comments.
Cheers, John
