Hi all,
It is confirmed. The TDE on this mirror is about 1/2". To much for
me to be willing to mask it off.
So now, I have to polish it out. I also have to revisit my ability to
properly do the Foucault test, and pay attention to what Ronchi is telling
me.Although this mirror is pretty good as is, that isn't good enough. It
has to be excellent. Capable of holding magnification to 35x-50x per inch
of aperature.
I am going north to Rockford, Illinois for the next 6 days to a wedding.
I'll ponder exactly how to proceed while I am driving that 1200 miles each
way. (No, I don't get in airplanes since 9-11). Probably my best method is
to go back to a sphere and start over, but there may be other options.
I am willing to listen to them. And Yes, Herb, you were right. I should
have fixed this weeks ago. I am right where you said I would be with the
80-90% zone.
So I'll check my e-mail when I get back, pour a new pitch lap, and proceed
from there. (You should see what happens to a pitch lap when left out in
100+ heat. It would be funny if I didn't need it. Luckily, it is easy to
redo.)
Clear skies, Jerry
