| subject: | INIT problem in FreeBSD |
HIALL, I am trying to install FreeBSD 2.2.7 on a 486SX25.SiS chipset VESA with a Miro S3 Trio32 VGA card. It is all SCSI Aha1542, 27MB HD, 2*speed CD(Texel) Archive 525 tape. There is a DOS partition of 70MB set wtih partition Magic. Unfortunately, my copy of ASPI4DOS is corrupt, and I cant see the CD from DOS so I created a boot disk on another machine. It boots OK, and I can do the config, but when I try to commit the partition changes, the system appears to ahng for a while, then I get a message 'Not going nowhere without my INIT'. Then the system reboots. The changes have not been made. I have tried to hit it with a warm or cold reboot during the hang, but no change. What does the message mean? Is there anything I can do about it? This mobo does have a problem ... when you first power up the video does not work ... you must press the reset button first! Otherwise its fine AFAICT. I can't see how this would affect an OS though. I have tried loading previous FreeBSDs on other SX25 machines without too much success either! I can get it to work on a DX66. Andrew ... Don't believe in superstition - it brings bad luck. --- Blue Wave/Max v2.30 [NR]* Origin: Me/2 (2:254/259) SEEN-BY: 396/1 632/0 371 633/260 267 270 284 371 634/397 635/506 725 728 SEEN-BY: 639/252 @PATH: 254/259 255/1 251/25 396/1 633/260 635/506 728 633/267 |
