Just as a comparison ...

I purchased an Intel  mac-mini direct from Apple in May. My first system
update after I unboxed it totaled slightly over 500 megabytes. The 10.4.7
update I did last week totaled slightly over 200 megabytes. I've also had
two firmware updates since the purchase
