The basic reasons are, of course, pretty much the same for both... eg
companionship, love, sexuality, security, acceptance... Not that one
always gets what they thought* they'd get... (and that goes for both
wanting one and wanting to be one)

NB>> When I think of all the things a

I was musing out loud about people in general, not really about anyone
in particular... :) When one looks at marriage in general, and the
expectations of spouses of each other, there is QUITE the list of
possible duties/responsibilities. Husbands expect wives to do stuff
they (the husbands) would rather not do, and vice versa...
Sometimes the division of labor makes sense, sometimes not... :) But
there's things like being the "trophy wife", being a "sugar
daddy",
entertaining, raising the kids, being the schedule coordinator for the
whole family, transporting the kids to all their myriad activities and
appointments, cooking, cleaning, laundry, handling the finances, yard
work, doing the taxes, etc, etc.... :)

Of course, in a good marriage, many of these will end up being done by
both spouses, either in turn or in conjunction, or being the care of one
better suited than the other, or be considered not at all important for
anyone to do... :)

NB>> I think that I might like to HAVE one...

MK> I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Not sure whether I'd like to have one or that you would? Or that, if I
did get one whether it would meet my expectations...? Oh, I know
better in reality...

NB>> of course, I realize there's drawbacks as well...

MK> Hm. That raises an interesting question; What are the drawbacks?

People being people, and certainly not perfect or ideal specimens, they
come complete with lots of faults which one has to put up with along
with all that they could be doing for one...
