Jean When you get a mail packet from a BBS it makes no difference what format it is QWK or Bluewave, you use a door (a term placed on the feature of the BBS that allows you to get a mail packet) on the BBS. When you get QWK packets the door name is determined by what software the SYSOP is running. When you get a Bluewave packet the door is named the Bluewave door in most cases. Some of the QWK doors are built into the BBS software. I think that most of the Bluewave doors are not. A Bluewave door is not available for all BBS software. QWK doors may not be either but I think that a bigger percentage of the BBS software will handle QWK doors. As for the Bluewave reader, the first ones that George created would only handle Bluewave packets. Later, maybe around v2.12 or slightly earlier he was convinced to include the QWK setup in the reader. QWK and Bluewave packets are handled differently due to the difference in the format for the two different standards. George set the standards for Bluewave and created the readers and doors to be compatible. In the QWK format he had to make the reader handle the standard that someone else had created and not all QWK doors worked alike. I have used both QWK and Bluewave doors. Some QWK doors are better than others, but most Bluewave doors are very much alike. ... Ben ...
