He was wanting to know how well the gears wore inside the internal gearing of 
a 3-speed hub, as opposed to external gearing.  i.e.  Will the gearing last 
long, or will the parts wear out soon?

You can still purchase them new...they're still made.  They're more or less 
for
people that just want a nice, relaxing, casual ride.  They're not for serious 
cyclists.
