subject: Forcing HST

Hi John,

JP>I wanted to experiment with something tonight; namely, forcing an HST
JP>I entered ATB1| for David's node address so that said command would be
JP>issued prior to dialling his system. However, I achieved a 31.2k V.34
JP>connection; no HST. From what I can gather, I would need to disable
JP>V.34, V.FC, V.32terbo et al. in order to force HST.

AT S54=192 S56=192 B1
is what is needed to force a HST connect, what it looks like in the
log file is :

----------  Fri 11 Oct 96
+ 20:43:17  Event 0-{at}
+ 20:49:21  Calling Lateline BBS, 3:712/841, 02-9579-6564
= 20:49:42  CONNECT 16800/ARQ/HST/HST/V42BIS
+ 20:49:53  Lateline BBS, 3:712/841
~ 20:49:53  SysOp: John Piper
~ 20:49:53  Using: FrontDoor 2.20c.m/AX0002B0
+ 20:50:09  Mail transfer completed
$ 20:50:09  To 3:712/841,  0:23, 42.

nothing special :) very useful on 'dirty' lines though... connect is
prett fast also...

JP>I have found that locking my modem so that it connects at 14400/V34 is
JP>useful when calling a certain node in Canada which I make semi-regular
JP>contact with. Possibly forcing HST connects to other DS Couriers will be
JP>beneficial too.
If the lines are pretty suss, then HST is usefull...

 cya later,

 Paul.

... Everyone is entitled to my opinion.
