digging into memory I think I ticked the GL option..

Considered that many times, my laptop runs Slackware normally,
panteltje20: ~ # uname -a
Linux panteltje20 2.6.37.6 #3 SMP Sat Apr 9 22:49:32 CDT 2011 x86_64 Intel(R)
Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
Can now boot in ubuntu, debian, slackware..
old slackware version, 2011, everything works, including seamonkey...
and all the stuff I wrote.
much is compiled from source

In this universe there is always a price point, a 'Small cheap Linux computer
with I/O' is
OK as target, but before you have it all up and running you need cables, power
adaptor, housing,
SDcard, you are closer to lemme see I payed 113 Euro including tax for a rp4
starter kit at sossolutions.nl.
That DVB-T2 receiver
https://www.ebay.com/itm/173920120323
has build in power supply for 230 V, has a 12V socket so you can also run it
from battery,
has metal housing, comes with cables, and all that for 24$ including tax.
Needs no SDcard, and it seems to run Linux, comes with a remote control too.
Only thing is that you cannot program it, you could hack it.
From a design and economics POV adding a big FLASH memory and keyboard not a
remote would keep it below 40$ I think.
China mass production sure, but raspis are also mass produced....
So it seems the raspi foundation is maybe pricing itself out of the market.
I have considered hacking that Chinese DVB-T2 thing to fix the multi-channel
audio issue (clearly needs a firmware fix,
maybe already fixed as the thing comes in ever new versions for the same ebay
item number, mine is a bit different)
but other more interesting things to do than watch Dutch TV, but not everybody
can hack firmware...
Are we buying a 'name' with raspberry?
Yes have considered free BSD, but it would need a lot of time getting
acquainted with it I think.
So I am into PIC micro controllers, cost nothing, no boot-up time, no power
consumption. And no Linux.
No browser either but I have plenty of PCs for web surfing around.
An other very important aspect of the PIC micros is almost zero weight,
important if you play with drone software:
http://panteltje.com/panteltje/quadcopter/index.html
So, nothing wrong with my Pi4, happy with it, web surfing great too, but the
price point of a working system is high.
Shops are making cool money on the cables, boxes, all sort of stuff you need to
get it going, 'non-standard' is always better ;-)
China could put a compatible thing in a box complete with cables plus SDcard
plus WiFi keyboard and power supply for < 40 Euro...
I would buy one. Whether they call it orange or avocado or banana I do not
care.
Something for the raspi club to think about.
Made in the UK by Sony? Jobs, corona, hard to tell.
can go both ways, incredible inflation (as happened before WW2 in Germany), WW3
(as WW2 happened after the big stock market collapse)
in fact we seem to be facing a biological war scenario, maybe El PreCedent gave
that same laboratory that made the HIV virus
the order to make corona, and had it exported to China, he is stupid enough not
to listen to people that would tell him it would hit the whole world
and hit him back....
Same scenario as global 'nuculear' war :-)
A milder scerario would be his tariffs forced the poor Chinese to eat infected
animals, same result.

Chances are bigger it is all nuked flat and trumpy will draft you to rebuild.
Burning dollars will be used to keep you warm.

So now 'trumpy' is using the army, basically that same scene, I did read it
from his brain.
Old song by the Nobel price winner Bob Dylan:

'I can see through you brain like I can see through the water that flows down
my drain
But I NEVER expected the idiot to start a biological war, expected nuclear.
Just to stay on topic to us.politics.
