It seems to me that the GOP leadership continues to make a huge
mistake They seem to take it as an article of faith that, since their
majority in Congress is not veto-proof, Congress is absolved from all
responsibility about anything, and they are particularly absolved from
doing anything about Clinton even though the Clinton administration is
many times more corrupt than the most corrupt in history before
Clinton.
So, the Republicans maintain, it is futile to entertain thoughts of
impeachment until such time as enough Democrats favor impeachment to
add up to the 2/3rds necessary to refer articles of impeachment to the
Senate. The simple fact is that they are not going to get a
combination of even 1/3rd before they consider possible articles of
impeachment and reveal the supporting evidence.
Has anyone on this echo seen the Barr impeachment resolution? It was
a very tenous resolution:
'Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary is directed to
investigate and report to the House whether grounds exist to
impeach William Jefferson Clinton, President of the United
 States.'
That Republicans won't even go this far is very, *very* disturbing.
It is as though they are guilty of the Clinton Crimes, too, and are
afraid a real investigation would reveal their part in them.
Bob Barr, as those who have seen him at work will attest, is nothing
if not shrewd. And he has the persistance and tenacity of a pit bull,
all of which means that we haven't heard the last of him.
... Established impeacheable offenses: obstruction of justice; abuse
... of power; noncompliance with congressional subpoenas.
