KK> Andrew, it may have something to do with the fact that the surface
KK> of Venus is at about 800 degrees F -- hot enough to melt lead.
Maybe too hot for the kind of life found on earth (carbon/water).
But, you do bring up an interesting point. Lord Kelvin once
calculated the maximum age of the earth based on temperature and
heat loss, thus showing the earth must be relatively young. Old
Earthers argue that his math failed to include the heat
contributed by decaying elements. We all know the decay curve...
Wouldn't the Earth have remained too hot for life for a lot
longer than popularly believed? Then it is also hard to accept
that the sun has remained constant in temperature for billions of
years (when it was younger, it would have been much larger and
had a core not yet diluted by fusion product). Add some more
heat. If someone would supply a rigorous treatment, I suspect
that we might find that the ancient blue-green algae thrived in
800 degrees F. But, let's not look for what we don't want to
find.
