There is a file called "GNUGREP.ZIP" available for FREQ from 3:711/934.
It contains a version of "grep". For those of you who don't know
what "grep" is, it's a "unix utility" that allows you do say find
the word "fred" in a set of files, e.g.
grep -i "fred" *.c
will give you the filename plus all the lines that have that word
in it, case insensitive. It is an invaluable utility.
GET IT!!!!!
Anyway, there is an executable provided in the above archive, but
it is an OS/2 exe + dll. You can probably compile it up under
DOS too.
The reason for my sudden conversion was because of something
annoying about the version of grep I have previously been using,
which is the one that comes with Borland C++. The problem is
that if you grep a single file, it still comes up with the
filename, unlike the unix utility. I was about to create a
workaround for this, when I decided to check if David Begley
had uploaded something that did the trick. He had, I installed
it, and now I am using it.
The world is now a better place. Go for it!!!! If you have
problems compiling it under DOS, I may be able to take a look
at it. BFN. Paul.
