Hello
> What types of things have you done with silk ribbon?
I started out doing pins since I bought a kit with all the things you
needed plus the ribbon and needles. I should mention that I received a
lovely pin from Gail Church before that and that gave me the inspiration
to try. After I passed by a class where I saw it done, I decided maybe
it was something I could do.
I carried the kit in my bag for many weeks on the train, occasionally
taking out the kit, reading the directions and deciding it really looked
difficult...maybe I should wait until I had more patience or someone
could teach me. I'm not real sure why I finally decided to stitch but
I've been creating ribbon projects since then.
After making several pins, I bought books that pictured clothing with
the ribbon on it. Meanwhile, I read about others who stitched onto a
blouse only to find that the ribbon color bled into the blouse. Again I
was hesitant to try. In the past few weeks I've stitched directly onto
two blouses and several t-shirts. I again started timidly by choosing
dark colored shirts. Then I bought a not too expensive blouse to try
making floral designs straight onto the blouse. The blouse and ribbon
wash and dry well in the washer and dryer and need no ironing. If it
needed either one I'd be back to making pins only.
Several weeks ago I also went back to one of my favorite pastimes during
the winter...decorating the neck of turtleneck shirts. (I figure that's
the only part that shows after I put on a vest or a sweater.) I've been
using a combination of beads or pearls, ribbon and floss. The results
always bring comments when I'm out.
I hope this is enough inspiration to try. It's not hard and comes out
nice. What more can one ask? (Well...it would be nice if the materials
were cheaper.)
As for hints, make the stitching as loose as you can allow yourself and
pre-wash the dark colors.
Have fun. The video will be off to you after Marcy gets and sees it.
Considering how long it takes to get to the US from Canada, it may be
awhile.
