On page 33 of the beagle basic manual a subroutine for an Applesoft 
SUBSTRING SEARCH is listed. See lines 100-160.

The manual in pdf format is available as part of the zip file for beagle 
basic which is available from the Beagle Repository at:

http://beagle.applearchives.com/the_software/vintage_beagle_bros_softwar/beagle_basic.html

Just click-on the image to download the zip file.

Another alternative you have is to use a Z80 card and MBASIC which has the 
function you want.

However it's easy enough for you to type-in the subroutine in the beagle 
manual and get-on with having fun I think.
