My problem wasn't with Com3 - it was IRQ12 which was the same as my
mouse - could not force it out of that slot. Tech support talked me thru
using the ICU software to force it where the old modem had been - but
that didn't hold after I rebooted. Tech Support told me to return modem
and buy one with jumpers. I read the docs and found out about the LOCK
function - which tech support had not had me use. I redid the install
and it worked fine. Next time I talked with tech support they were
surprised that I used LOCK. Could be I used the latest version I got
off the 'net rather than the one that came with my modem.

My default is 57600 and it works like a champ except with one board. Tech
support gave me a new init string that lets me log on at 24000 - but cannot
get on at 28800 with intelligible feedback. I can get a connect at 28800,
but cannot read anything on the screen.
... Don't blame Congress. If I had billions, I'd be irresponsible, too!
