standard spelling. Ultimately, the expert speller is able to use
information from visual memory, as well as knowledge of phonetic,
contextual, and meaning relationships to determine the correct spelling
of a word. But the process takes time. Important foundations of learning
to spell are set with the use of invented spelling.
