No, I'm asking questions and learning. If the questions sound hard or
pointed, well that's how I think, vendors hate it but it serves me well.

Last time I had to configure a static IP in knoppix I got to click on a
pretty picture to click on... then I got a command window with green print
and everything started to spin .

Ok, so it's easy to tell which ones are security patches? That's pretty
much all I ever take from MS and I even read the details of the exploits to
decide if each machine really needs a specific patch. For example I never
patch outlook express on web servers.
