"What doesn't kill us only damages us".
Well, I guess I paraphrased a little bit. Nice not to be the only
survivor of "what a long, strange trip it's been". Sober 12 yrs. May 7.
Do you read Vintage Guitar? I got to the new ish today. First three
articles I checked were:
1) A thing about the first-ever cherry red ES-335--which was the one and
only one made in '58. It was recently discovered, having spent most of
its life in its case. The Hazardware guy in St. Louis (from whom I bought
my swell "Ozzy Oswald" tee shirt) sold it to a British collector, along
with its companion Gibson GA-83 Stereo/Vib amp. I wonder what price they
fetched..
2) Scanned a piece about Dick Wagner [I have _Frost Music_ on CD!] and
Steve Hunter. "Sweet Jane", off _Rock 'n Roll Animal_, is still on my top
20 fave guitar "parts" ever. Lou Reed doesn't like that 70's period, due
in no small part to the fact that these two guitarists stole the show.
Hunter still plays Gibsons, and I think it said he played a LP Jr. back
then. These guys may do a CD. I'll go back and read more about the
hardware either / both used in supporting Reed and/or Alice Cooper.
3) [I had to go get the mag out of the car--a mind is a terrible thing]
was a thing about Michael Henderson, whose Blues music I've bought & dig.
He uses a Tele in E and his main guitar is a Silvertone in C, but he
capoes [is there an e in there, or did I do a Quayle?] both to key a
couple more keys each. I have 2 of his versions of "Pony Blues", both
great slide pieces.
4) Speaking of slide pieces, there's going to be a touring show. It's
starting at a museum in PA or so, then going on the road in ~ March. It
celebrates RESONATORS created by the Dopyera Bros.--Nationals & Dobros.
Bob Brozman, Corey Harris, and some other players are in it, along with a
bunch of resophonic instruments. Man, I hope this thing comes to Detroit!
