Hello WaterGaters!

Patch Level 8 for 0.93
----------------------

Patch Level 8 for WaterGate version 0.93 is now available! The archive is
called wg093p8.zip (246Kb) and can be picked up from the usual places. It
has been tested by a few people since it's creation on 14 December 1998
and works as expected.

It should be available at:

  World Wide Web
  http://www2.sbbs.se/hp/ramon/

  Anonymous FTP from ftp.sbbs.se
  directory /pub/watergate
  Sweden

  Anonymous FTP from ftp.downcity.net
  directory /pub/watergate
  North America

  FREQ: Island's BBS, France: 2:326/2
BBS the Snake, The Netherlands: 2:284/312
        Boudicca's Bard, German: 2:244/1195
        Stronghold Enterprises/X, Canada: 1:17/667
        Computer Connection, USA: 1:124/7008

It should be available at the other sites within a few days. More sites
are listed in getnew.txt in the wg093.zip distribution archive.

The patch fixes a number of bugs, as follows:

 * MIME encoded header lines in RFC messages are no properly decoded.

 * Fixed a few bugs in the FastEcho Nodes import. The bug resulted in
invalid AKA numbers (and other garbage). In addition some of the
   areas were never subscribed.

 * Mailing list distribution of netmail/echomail now makes sure there
are no AREA or VIA kludges left in the message. This avoids dupe
loop detection because of old Via lines and avoids echomail warnings
because of an old AREA kludge.

 * No longer creating the dupe file after each run. Instead I try to
open it first and create it if it doesn't exist. That saves some
deleted (recoverable) files on a Novell system after each run.

 * Now checking for the TEMP and TMP environment variables and using
that path to create some temporary files.

 * Fixed a bug in the domain checking. A system domain "domain.com"
triggered on "xxxdomain.com". Somebody got accidental mails to
"xxx.domain.com" since his domain looked like that of a big
company with the domain "xxxdomain.com" and he could mail their
postmaster because WG refused to send it!

 * Last character on a line in an RFC message is now properly
translated into the new character set. (This was already fixed
in 0.93.p7 but not mentioned in the upgrade.doc)

To upgrade, you need to have version 0.93.p7 installed.

Have fun with the patch and let me know when there are urgent problems
left to fix in 0.93 so I can release a p9 if required.

Ramon
