-- This was in a message from Clark Ray to Josh Ryman --
CR> "Don't Kill The Whale" is alright, especially the ending, but one
CR> song
CR> does not an album make...er, or words to that effect.
Agreed. I may like "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and "Leave It", but I ain't
gonna go buy _90125_. I'll just get that Highlights album, and get a bunch
of other spiffy songs with 'em.
CR> Well, he wasn't the first, probably. Certainly it had been done
CR> before
CR> 1977. I wouldn't know one organ from another [I'm talking about
CR> the
CR> keyboard instrument here :-) ], but Genesis was using organs in
CR> 1970. I
CR> don't know if they ever used a church organ.
Not alot of bands seem to have embraced the church organ. I think it's a Yes
thing.
CR> As for "Parallels," I've never understood the fascination with
CR> that
CR> song. It's the one I typically pass over when listening to that
CR> album.
CR> I do, however, like that middle section with the vocal "Parallel
CR> our
CR> sights" etc.
Well, one day I just started listening to the album, I got to "Parallels",
and something clicked. It wouldn't be as cool without the church organ, I
think, although it has a pretty cool bass line. The lyrics are good, too.
