Couple of thoughts - is there a cancellation mark on the back of the
check or does your bank statement show the date when the moneys were
deducted from your account? If this didn't also happen on Dec 4th,
that bank is in serious KimChee...
I don't know who the actual people to contact are but there are both
state and federal regulatory agencies who deal with this sort of stuff
on a regular basis.
Some things cannot be dealt with - I heard of one case where a bank
would take a stack of checks and process the biggest ones first. This
was so that if the account ran out of money, they would have a number
of smaller ones bounce - each with their own bounce fee - rather than
process all the small ones and run out of gas on the big one.
This sadly was totally legal - but you case, if this place is cashing
the check and not crediting it to your account within 24 hours, they
are doing something wrong...
