TABS (= TABlatureS) are a way to represent music on fretted instruments, like
acou. and electric guitar and basses.
Normal pentagrams show the lenght and the pitch of a note on 5 lines (er..
actually there are more, but I won't get too difficult!) The point is that on
guitar he same notes can be obtained in many positions, on various strings,
and they sound differently too.
So the tablature represents 6 lines (each one is a string of the guitar -
obviously bass tabs [btab] can have 4,5,6 lines depending on the string
number) with numbers on them showing what fret of what string must be
"played".
This "thing" below is a tab, meaning: play string 1, fret 1, and then string
2 fret 2 and string 3 fret 6 TOGETHER...
