Dear Joe - DON'T DON'T DON'T
If you're a good Scoutmaster, we need you most right there. There are no
responsibilities on council that are more important, and don't let them tell
you otherwise. Three years is barely enough to get your program running
smoothly!
With all due respect to our professionals and council-level adults, I think
their main contribution is to keep each other out of our hair, so we can do
the job of running a Scout troop.
You're right, there are too many adult 'leaders' who have never matured
beyond their teens. For them, Scouting is a club and a social activity. Or a
chance to exert power. Every troop has it's adults who hang around but do not
contribute, but they should be kept away from the boys and the programs.
Please go on as Scoutmaster.
