In these comparisons, you need to keep in mind that (for better or worse)
the Linux OS's come with a lot of apps as part of the OS distribution.
Those apps are patched as well.
Is that aggregating of apps a good thing? I'm of two minds. On one hand,
Ubuntu does a very good job of bundling important apps. While other
distributions seem to bundle multiple apps of the same genre (e.g., two
different email clients), and putting them all on the menu system.
I like the Ubuntu approach, personally, because it allows me to get started
and then branch out to other apps once I've got my feet on the ground.
