Hi Ruth!
-=> Quoting Ruth Haffly to Wendy Buchanan <=-
RH> I paid about $15.00 for this thing and 4 spools. Another 4 spools
RH> cost about a dollar each. It may be a bit pricey at first but I know
RH> it will pay for itself over the years as I won't have to buy several
RH> cones/spools of thread for large projects. I have 2 spools from it,
RH> plus the cone they were wound from, on my serger now for the wedding
 RH> dresses.
That makes sense. I didn't know you could use spools on the
serger. But it would save you buying so many cones of the
same color. Hmmmm....
I bought a cone because I needed some 100% polyester thread
for a couple projects with polar fleece and couldn't find
any on spools the day I went shopping. But then I couldn't
use it and had to wait several days till I could get to the
fabric store to get some on a spool, as I couldn't adapt the
cone to use with my sewing machine.
RH> An adapter to use cone thread on the sewing machine is only about
RH> $5.00. I got mine on a half price sale back in 1992 shortly after we
RH> came back from Germany; believe me, it's one "small" investment that
RH> has saved a lot of money--there are some colors of thread I go thru
RH> like water and being able to use the cone thread over the spool is a
I imagine that would save a lot. I don't sew a lot but I'm
starting to more, and I think I'll just invest in one of the
small adapters. The tall one I don't have room for. It's
less money but it just won't work here. My space is very
confined.
Wish it were otherwise but there just is not room for much in
this place. The house has such small rooms! If it weren't for
the mirrors on the wall, our living room would look like a small
walk-in closet, and this guest room is the middle sized bedroom,
but not very large.
I wanted to knock walls out and make the 3 small bedrooms into
two larger ones, then add a family room, but that didn't work
out because Tom was laid off for so long, we went through all
our savings and his IRA just to live the past 5 years. But we
can live with the house the way it is, so for now all we do is
grin at one another and say, "Maybe someday..." 8-) We have
been blessed at every turn and it would be ungrateful to be
constantly dissatisfied with what we've been given.
LadyBear Hugs,
Wendy
