| subject: | Re: What`s `HST` mean? |
Once apon a time John Piper said, 'What's "HST" mean?' to Paul Wankadia... JP> Telstra won't guarantee anything above 2400 (or is it 4800?) bps on JP> standard PSTN phone lines. Quite simply, the PSTN wasn't designed for JP> transmitting data at high speeds -- that's what ISDN was designed for. You'll probably find they dont guarantee anything above 2400 _baud_ which is not the same thing at all. (See another thread here) A standard 14400bps modem as far as I know uses a baud rate less than or equal to 2400 (I dont know the exact value) so ergo is covered by their guarantee, I dont know about 28.8K though, it probably exceeds 2400 by a little bit....(I must find some information on the modulation schemes of V32bis, V34 etc...) Regards, Simon ...
