The white-trash blue-collar boys were posting in the Fidonet flame
groups up to about a year ago. I've no clue about what Fidonet
actually is or how it works, but it seems to be a sort of pre-Usenet.

Being mostly ignored or banned and looking for a larger audience, they
moved to Usenet, hoping to take over alt.flame, which they perceived
to be the equivalent of their previous main forum, Fidonet.flame or
something.

They were widely ignored again and probably figured out that invading
an empty group was more within their capabilities, hence their
presence in alt.flamenet.
