-=> Quoting Peter Perros to All <=- Hi Peter.. PP> 1. I use a Maestro 144FM External presently. Is it worth PP> upgrading to a faster modem for internet work. I get PP> between 0.9 and 1.4 k per sec during internet downloads on PP> Netscape and FTP. Yes sure is worth upgrading, but make sure you have the 16550 UART fitted to your comms controller. PP> 2. If I was to upgrade, and my budget runs to $300 max, PP> what modem or modems should I consider. To date I have read PP> about the KTX 33.6 Fax Modems, and about the new Spirit PP> (?)Dragon 33.6 External Fax Modem. The latter is about $100 PP> more expensive. Is one better than the other? I think KTX is one of those dumb modems, like no MNP I think but can't be sure but they are cheap, The Spirit I am not sure about. I am running a Modem Blaster, like top speed is 28.8k, others are abit faster, but then I got my one for free, won it as a prize, seems to run well and easy to setup, cost about the $300 mark and supports all the fancy extra things like MNP 5 etc. Basicaly you only get what you pay for in modems, the more you pay the better the modem, Netcomm seem O.K. for quality. Take care..
