>In Trek however, there are two contradictory impressions - A) The Federati=
on
Government is competent and capabl of doing things well. and B) The Prime
Directive says "Don't go there." Intervention is not the
presumption.
In other words, it's hard to imagine a scenario where the Federation would
= invade some
minor little non-aligned world in order to remove a dictator that no longer=
pleased the
Federation. Maybe there is a story idea here. On the other hand, what abo= ut this
scenario. Say some small, out-of-the-way member world, the kind that one w= ould
throw into a story as a name of a Federation planet and then forget about
i= t, had a change
of government and some dictator came to power, a dictator that got friendly=
with
smugglers and pirates and the like, and even supplied them with weapons. T= his
dictator also cruelly put down revolts by his own people. Because the Fede= ration
generally has a hands-off attitude when it comes to the internal
administra= tion of its
member worlds, how would it handle this? Would it blockade the planet to p= revent
contact with the undesirables, would it impose sanctions, would it expel th= e planet
from the Federation or would it invade, either clandestinally or out in the=
open to affect
a "regime change?" Would the Federation have any policies to
follow on thi= s matter?
Definite story ideas here.
