For starters, in the *nix world, man (the manual command) is your friend.

  man ps

will tell you all manner of info regarding the parameters you should use to
convince the ps command to show you what you want.

Some distributions also have an  info command, but I usually stay with man,
since it is on all the distributions and it has what I need.
