Hello, All.

Thought I'd share with you my first full-fledged hypoglycemic attack... I
nearly passed out from it, but I did something smart and stopped it... let
me set this up:

I'd driven about 35 miles into town (read: Atlanta) to go to the local Ham
Radio Outlet store. I was picking up an antenna and a new 2m HT. Went in
with my wife and talked to my favorite salesman. As I was talking, I
noticed that I felt light-headed and my mouth started to fall asleep (pins
and needles).

Soon, I felt "out of it" and then started to lose my balance...
then I started sweating. We're not talking a little sweat, but more like
running eight miles kind of sweat.

I panicked, as I knew what was happening, but no one had any sugar or hard
candy... but I'd remembered that in the car, in the backpack that I carry
for work (has my uniform, etc), I'd put some glucose tablets in it.
Quickly, using all of my willpower as not to collapse, I walked the 20 feet
out the door to the car.

I found the glucose tablets, shoved two of those monsters in my mouth and
chowed down... luckily, within 15 minutes, I stopped sweating.

Then after all was said and done, we went to a Korean restauraunt and I
began to sweat again from the food. We gave up trying to eat it
(no one spoke English, I think) and went to get a bite to eat somewhere
else.

I was amazed that I was able to drive and be coherent after that-it
terrifed me! Then again, it was my fault-I hadn't eaten but a hot dog all
day...

What really got me was how fast it hit me... and how hard. I mean, from
start to finish was maybe 10-15 minutes tops. I think it's because I'm on
a good dose of glyburide (5 mg) and I know that glyburide can cause rapid
hypoglycemia in a hurry.

Out of this next paycheck, I'm getting a Medic Alert braclet. That
incident scared the hell out of me and I'm not wanting that to happen
again...

I'll be good and eat more next time, as well as start bringing a snack with
me such as some crackers or something...

Later,
Sean
