Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile's Corporate Rate in the Pittsburgh Region is
$10.95 per month access. With that, you get .99 roaming in most of North
America, but only .59 access in most of the Northeast, the Baltimore and
Washington DC area, and Western South Carolina. But that rate is only
available to companies with 25 or more lines, or to employees of
companies with a corporate plan.
If you belong to a qualifying association (like Chambers of Commerce,
Bar Associations, etc.) you can get the Association rate, which is
$17.95, with airtime at .37 peak & .17 off-peak. It also qualifies for
reduced roaming in the same areas as the Corporate plan.
If you don't qualify for either of those plans, the cheapest one that
gives you .59 roaming in the Northeast is the Value Pack 60 at $29.99
per month.
The Sprint PCS roaming rates are much better, but since the majority of
the country has no Sprint PCS service, that low rate is rather moot.
Sprint's PCS is supposed to be available everywhere "soon". By the same
token, not too long ago we were all told that "soon" we'd be listening
to Digital Audio Tape. "Soon" we'll be able to get cable TV on our phone
lines & phone service on our TV cable. "Soon" we'll have cars that get
75 miles per gallon.
