In linux it has been really slow on the ADSL connection here.  On the same
connection seems to work fine in Windows.  Still tracking that down.
Finally in my permanent apartment, so I am in the process of getting
everything setup.

Yes, been here since the end of May as the Naval Attache.  Interesting
place.  Took a long drive yesterday from Baku down south to the border
area. Roads are in terrible shape.  Another proud Soviet legacy I guess.  I
don't understand why they couldn't build roads worth a damn.  The main
roads here wouldn't be considered county roads in the States.  But of
course they have to drive about 120 km/hr on this crappy road.  Guess that
explains the two fatal accidents I saw in about 8 hours of driving on one
road.
