The even more basic issue is whether the exclusion from the group is in
itself a good or a bad thing.  If it isn't a good group, being excluded
is better, at least in the long run.  It may not feel all that good at
the point it is happening, of course.  It's something I've always been
wrestling with, actually... balancing the want to be included in the
group with being willing to be "odd-man-out" on principle, when others
were being excluded on specious grounds.

It may take a while to fully take its tumble... and might manage to
recover despite it all, should it take a somewhat different course... :)

Ah, well... I don't really try to change anyone.  Be a good (positive)
influence, hopefully, yes...  but I realize nothing I say or do will
change someone else unless they do the changing themselves on their own.
My remark was based mostly on what I've seen from how you comport
yourself here in this venue... both with me and with others... :)
If I were to meet you in the flesh, I'd have other factors as well to
make my assessments...
