Well today is the day before the school district starts school and we start
tommorrow also. I have to inform them today that I am homeschooling. Don't
treasure the thought. I have not done this before so I am alittle nervous
as to what their reaction is going to be. This school district has alway
fought me on everything so I can imagine the meeting today. I waited for
the last moment (which was recommended by the homeschool support network).
I filled out the State Board Education paper registering my school for
religious reasons. The support network said I really don't need to do this,
but since the new law that came out is so generalized I wanted to protect
myself and my children from the state and district. I maybe lucky and find
them cooperating, but that would be a surprise.
Hope things are going well for everyone. Oh yes. yesterday we had a lesson
on canning. I canned tomatoes with green peppers and onions (first time in
5 years) and decided to teach my children about it. We really haven't
tarted
school, but I wanted to see how they would react to some hands on stuff. It
went ok. They had billions of questions and learned alot about germs and
sanitation in food. They loved to hear the jars pop as they sealed and
thought the canned goods were pretty with all that color. They also learned
that the oil in tomatoes is heavier than the tomatoes and makes the tomatoes
and oil seperate sometimes. What a great science lesson. They now want to
can peaches which I am reluctant to do at 25 dollars a bushel. But all in
all it was fun. Have a great year everyone.
